The Anglo Irish Bank is the top performer in terms of consistent savings accounts, new research shows.

Research by Moneyfacts.co.uk shows that the bank offers the best returns over 18 and 36 months, both for easy access and notice savings accounts .

Michelle Slade, analyst at the financial website, said: "With many of us having busy lives, we don't have the time or inclination to keep moving our money around.

"However, there is a good home for your savings where you don't have to keep moving your money every few months."

The Anglo Irish Bank has now withdrawn the two savings accounts, but these have been replaced by new versions paying even higher rates, she added.

Kent Reliance's Direct Cash individual savings account was named as being the most consistent product of its kind over 18 months, the survey also found.

Last week, Helen Cook, head of savings at Sainsbury's Finance, advised people to keep an eye on the interest rating being offered by their savings accounts and switch if a better deal becomes available.
