A quarter of Brits would like to leave their current profession to pursue a career that is related to their favourite hobby and will dip into their savings to enjoy their pastimes, a pensions group has found.
Friends Provident has discovered that 25 per cent of Brits aspire to making their much-loved hobby into a professional pastime, like JK Rowling or Lewis Hamilton.
Head of wealth management marketing at Friends Provident Christine Foyster comments that many people are using their savings rather than credit cards to fund their favourite pastimes.
She remarks: "It is encouraging to find that many people are using their savings or their wages to fund their hobbies, rather than paying with credit cards or loans .
"Saving regularly can be a cost-effective way to fund a hobby."
Ms Foyster adds that parents and grandparents would be prudent to begin savings as early as possible to pay for their children's hobbies, as the expense of such activities rises.
In related news, the British Bankers' Association has said that consumers who have savings in a Northern Rock savings account have no need to worry, despite concerns about the health of the company .
