OFT helps boost savings options

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has pledged its support to the Citizens Advice Save Xmas campaign aimed at providing more information about saving money .

Awarding the scheme £80,000 in funding, the OFT said that the campaign would provide training sessions to provide assistance to people looking to understand their saving options.

Sue Cook, head of consumer and business education at the OFT, said that the organisation was "delighted" to provide assistance to the initiative.

"We would urge groups and organisations who are interested in delivering Save Xmas training and helping people make choices that best suit their needs when saving for Christmas training to contact us promptly," she commented.

John Rhodes, head of financial capability at Citizens Advice, said that the scheme was intended to help people save for Christmas "with genuine confidence".

Halifax Credit cards recently reported that on average, consumers are likely to spend £384.40 on Christmas present each this year.
