More than 33,000 consumers sought independent financial advice on savings and investments between July and September this year, it has been claimed.
According to research by Unbiased.co.uk, the figure represented a 17 per cent increase on the number recorded during the previous quarter.
David Elms, chief executive of the firm, said the research indicated people turn to independent financial advisers (IFAs) when they are concerned about conditions within the financial markets .
"Volatility in current financial markets and the changing legislative landscape here and across Europe has resulted in some uncertainty amongst holders of investment products," Mr Elms commented.
It is "reassuring" to find that people continue to choose advice from IFAs in order to "protect themselves", he added.
Research published by uSwitch.com earlier this week revealed that 35 per cent of consumers are worried about the effect the current economic climate will have on their finances .
