Accessibility is the key to Isas

Tue, 13 Nov 2007

When choosing an individual savings account (Isa), consumers should consider how easily they can access their account, it has been claimed.

New research by Abbey found that the majority of "easy access" cash mini Isas cannot be accessed via the internet or by telephone.

Although 36 per cent of such savings accounts do offer internet access , the firm discovered that 27 per cent can only be accessed by one method.

Reza Attar Zadeh, director of savings and investments at Abbey, said: "Accessibility is an important issue when selecting an Isa. Primarily, the account has to offer a form of management that you are both comfortable and experienced with."

However, the expert noted that cash Isas have never had "more attractive" rates than at present.

Last month, the Building Societies Association reported that building society net receipts to cash Isas reached £68 million in September, up from £57 million during the corresponding month in 2006.
