Savings accounts which offer a percentage of the interest to charity are beginning to become more popular, an expert has claimed.
Consumers who wish to donate to charity on a regular basis may find that savings accounts or credit cards which offer the facility are the most convenient way, Moneyfacts stated.
Rachel Thrussel, head of savings at the company, remarked that 32 savings account are now available which donate to a wide range of charitable causes.
The expert added that the interest rate provided by these accounts, while not as high yield as some, "are by no means the lowest on offer".
"Some consumers would be more than happy to sacrifice a little of their interest rate in the knowledge that their chosen charity will benefit as a result."
Ms Thrussel also drew attention to two new savings accounts which have been created to coincide with the start of National Giving Week, offered by Coventry Building Society and West Bromwich Building Society.
Earlier this week, Colin Franklin, head of sales at Coventry, noted that affinity savings accounts enabled consumers to "give money to causes close to their heart".
