Savings account offer from Leeds

Thu, 26 Jan 2006

Those who want to start saving money in a savings account that offers a guaranteed savings interest rate now have a new option from Leeds Building Society.

The fifth issue of its Direct Saver Plus will pay at least 4.6 per cent gross a year until April 1st 2007 and allows savings account holders instant access to their savings.

Savings account holders will not need to give Leeds notice of the withdrawal and no penalty charge will be incurred, as long as at least £1,000 is taken from the savings account.

A higher savings interest rate will apply to the savings account if the Bank of England base rate becomes higher than 4.6 per cent.

Previous issues of the Direct Saver Plus savings account have been "very popular" among those saving money, says the head of marketing at Leeds Building Society, Karen Wint.

She describes the guaranteed savings interest rate combined with no-notice and penalty-free access to funds as "winners".

"Many customers see this account as an integral part of their investment portfolio," Ms Wint adds.

The savings account's popularity means that it is a limited issue, she says, urging potential savings account holders "to act quickly to avoid disappointment".
