Nearly a quarter of Brits admit they lack confidence in their current financial situation, a new survey by the leading direct financial services provider, MORE TH>N revealed.
MORE TH>N's personal finance unit, which offers life insurance, critical illness cover, mortgage protection insurance and a credit card, has introduced a Consumer Barometer to monitor the true opinions of the "average person on the street".
The first report finds that people's priorities over the coming months will switch towards curbing spending. Almost thirty per cent of people in the country would rather pay off existing debts than splurge on a major purchase. Nearly a third of Britons are currently trying to save money.
Graham Hollebon, head of personal finance at MORE TH>N said it is encouraging that people want to reduce debt as a first response to the "potential for their personal finances to take a bit of a knock over the coming months".
He expressed concern about the continuing high number of people for whom debt is a problem. Mr Hollebon advised people to avoid ignoring debt problems and to take practical steps to improve the situation.
"Check you have the best credit card and loan deals you can get, rein in spending and make sure you talk to your card, loan and banking providers to get help from them," he said.
