Footy fans kick off with savings accounts

Thu, 04 Aug 2005

Premiership football fans around the country are looking forward to season kick-off on August 13th.

But being seen in club colours and at every game is not enough for some fans to prove their allegiance.

Loyal football fans are opening affinity savings accounts which provide them not only with a savings account card branded with their club, it also gives something extra to the club they support.

By using these affinity savings accounts, administrators are able to make donations for example to youth development at the club. Affinity savings account holders also often qualify for discount at their club store.

In August and September the Liverpool savings account and Manchester United savings account offers savings account holders an extra one per cent savings rate. This savings rate bonus is offered in celebration of the teams' performance in the Champions League.

Although savings rates on these savings accounts are not as high as some online savings accounts, they still offer savings account holders good deals according to Rachel Thrussell of Moneyfacts.co.uk.

Ms Thrussell, the head of savings at the independent financial website, most affinity savings account holders still have instant access and pay rates that are competitive with other branch-based savings accounts, "especially when the one per cent donation to the club is taken into account".
